Prague-born Libor Pešek has enjoyed an international conducting career for over fifty years, working with the world’s leading artists and orchestras. Heralded for his interpretations of Czech music, this programme is the perfect showcase for his talents with Smetana’s exuberant Overture to The Bartered Bride and Dvořák’s impassioned Symphony No.7. Arguably his greatest symphony, it is music that is tragic, striving and imbued with much that is hearttouching and dance-related. Rather than being in the shadow of Brahms, as is sometimes reported, Dvořák reveals his true Slavic identity.

Completing the programme, British pianist Leon McCawley makes a welcome return to The Hexagon, the ideal exponent for the brilliant piano writing of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.1.
